Maserati is known for its muscular sedans and luxurious SUVs, but the Italian brand has also proven its expertise in the exotic car world with the MC20—a model that frankly doesn’t get talked about enough.
Powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 producing 621 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque, the Italian sports car can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in under 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 326 km/h.
It may not be the most powerful or the fastest, but the Maserati MC20 remains an incredibly impressive car from a technical standpoint and delivers thrilling driving emotions. What’s more, it’s one of the few sports cars in its segment with a starting price under $300,000, which makes it all the more appealing.
A Successor on the Way?
Believe it or not, the Maserati MC20 has already been on the market for five years. That’s not unusual for an exotic car of this kind, but it seems the automaker is already considering a replacement.
At the moment, the Italian brand’s sports car is riding a wave of success. Maserati just launched the GT2 Stradale version, an even more radical and race-focused variant. In short, the car is at the top of its game and more popular than ever.
Nothing official has been announced by Maserati yet, but the brand recently filed for the trademark “MC25,” which strongly suggests a new model is on the way. It could be the next phase of the MC20, a major evolution, or an entirely new vehicle. Needless to say, all sorts of rumors are circulating online about it.
No Electric Supercar?
A few years ago, Maserati had talked about launching an electric version of the MC20—an idea that now seems to have been shelved due to lack of sufficient demand. Gas-powered exotics, on the other hand, are more popular than ever. In my opinion, that’s why Maserati is moving forward with a successor to the MC20—something we’re eagerly awaiting, without a doubt.
